Moving Your Website from Any CMS to Seo-Gen CMS

A website often lives on one system for years, and at some point its limits start costing more than the move itself. A CMS migration solves this problem when everything that already works for search stays in place: page URLs, texts, meta tags, internal links and structured data.

Why do businesses change their website CMS?

Our website migration services bring sites to Seo-Gen CMS from WordPress, Prom, Horoshop, Shopify, OpenCart, Magento and other platforms. WordPress sites come over through the built-in import, tested on the DIVI theme, while pages, products and design from other platforms are moved manually by our specialists under an agreed estimate.

The reason for moving to another platform is almost always practical: the old system gets in the way of what the business needs right now. Website owners most often give us these reasons for switching their engine and moving the site:

  • every new SEO requirement depends on a plugin, a paid module or a developer;
  • editing the header, footer or menu has to be repeated by hand on dozens of pages;
  • system and module updates regularly break something on the website;
  • the platform does not let you freely change the design, URLs or meta tags;
  • texts in different languages have to be managed in different places.

A move to a new CMS makes sense when the new system handles these tasks with built-in tools. In Seo-Gen CMS, meta tags, canonical URLs, 301 redirects, the sitemap and structured data are part of the system core, so SEO settings do not depend on third-party plugins.

How do you keep rankings during a site move?

Search engines rank specific page addresses, so rankings are more often lost because of broken links and missing meta tags than because of the engine change itself. A website migration without ranking losses rests on three things: a complete URL map, correct redirects and careful checks after launch.

Any website migration gives search engines a reason to crawl the pages again, so nobody can honestly promise that rankings will not move at all. Our job is to keep any fluctuations short and prevent them from turning into a long drop in organic traffic.

URL map and 301 redirects

Before the move, we export every address of the old website: pages, blog posts, categories, product cards and files that external links point to. Each old address gets a new one in the table, and this redirect map becomes the basis for every redirect we set up.

Where an address can stay unchanged, we keep it, and the remaining pages get a 301 redirect to the closest matching address. 301 redirects are configured inside Seo-Gen CMS itself, so you do not need server access or a separate module for them.

Canonical tags, sitemap and post-launch checks

Every page on the new website gets a canonical URL, and the system keeps one address format with a trailing slash to avoid creating duplicates. The sitemap and robots rules are configured in the system, and domain ownership in search engines is confirmed with a button in the admin panel.

Launch-day checks

After the domain switch, we go through the URL map and check the responses of old links, meta tags, canonical URLs and structured data. The built-in Seo-Gen CMS checks show duplicates, broken links, broken images and empty addresses, so errors become visible right after launch.

We look first at the pages that brought the most traffic and leads, and fix any error in the admin panel the same day. Disputed cases, such as a page with no close replacement, are agreed with the client and marked in the URL map.

Monitoring in the first weeks

During the first weeks after launch we watch indexing, crawl errors and rankings for the pages from the URL map. If an old address leads to the wrong place or a page drops out of the index, we fix the redirect and submit the page for another crawl.

Analytics counters are connected in the Seo-Gen CMS settings, so they collect visitor data from the very first day of the new website. The URL map stays with the client together with the check report, so the team can return to it several months later.

How does a CMS migration to Seo-Gen CMS work?

The move goes step by step, and every step ends with a clear check that the client can see and approve. The old website keeps working until the domain switch, so visitors and search engines never land on a half-empty version of the site.

Timelines depend on the number of pages, products, design complexity and language versions, so we name them after the audit together with the estimate. Below is the order of work, which stays the same for a manual migration from any platform and for the automatic WordPress import.

01

Audit and estimate

First we study the whole website: the section structure, page templates, catalog, inquiry forms, language versions and SEO settings. At the same time we export all addresses and meta tags and mark the pages that bring the client traffic, leads and external links.

After the audit we prepare the estimate: what moves one to one, which blocks are rebuilt in the editor and which differences from the original are acceptable. The migration price is based on this estimate, while the system subscription is paid separately under the plan the client chooses.

02

Moving content and design

From WordPress, the Seo-Gen CMS import takes pages, texts, images, menus, forms and SEO data; it has been tested on websites with the DIVI theme, and on other themes the team checks every page and finishes what is missing by hand. From other platforms our specialists move the content by hand: they build pages from blocks, upload images to the media library and add products with their categories.

We reproduce the design of the new website 1:1, including the header, footer, blocks, fonts, colors and mobile version. The header, footer and 404 page live in global zones in Seo-Gen CMS, so after the move you edit them in one place for every page at once.

03

Checks and domain switch

Before launch we compare the new website with the original page by page: desktop and mobile views, texts, forms, meta tags and redirects from the URL map. We fix any differences before the domain switch and show disputed places to the client in advance for approval.

The domain is connected with an assistant that guides the DNS setup at the registrar, and the HTTPS certificate is issued automatically. Right after the switch, old addresses start sending visitors and search engines through 301 redirects to the new pages.

How long does a website migration take?

The timeline depends on the number of pages and products, design complexity and the number of languages, so we name it after the audit together with the estimate. A WordPress website with the automatic import usually moves faster than an online store with a large catalog.

How much does a website migration to Seo-Gen CMS cost?

Moving an existing website 1:1 to Seo-Gen CMS costs from UAH 25,000, and the final amount comes from the estimate after the audit. The price depends on the number of pages and products, design complexity, the number of languages and the size of the redirect map.

Work or servicePrice
Moving an existing website 1:1from UAH 25,000, final price per estimate
Website on a Seo-Gen templatefrom UAH 12,000
Website built from a design mockupfrom UAH 30,000
Custom developmentUAH 600 per hour
System subscriptionfrom UAH 990 per month per website

The migration is paid once at the price fixed in the estimate, while the system subscription is separate and covers hosting, backups, system updates and support. If the old website is easier to rebuild on a template than to migrate, we will tell you so at the estimate stage.

Why move your website to Seo-Gen CMS?

In Seo-Gen CMS, SEO is built into the system core, so everything checked during a move works without plugins: meta tags for every page and language, canonical, hreflang, sitemap, robots, 301 redirects and Schema.org. After the move the client or their SEO specialist edits these settings directly in the admin panel, without asking a developer.

The system runs as a cloud service, and hosting, backups, updates and website monitoring are included in the subscription. The website data belongs to the client, and an export of texts, URLs, media files, meta tags and redirects is available at any time at no extra cost.

Answers to your questions

Can you move a website without losing rankings?

Nobody can rule out ranking fluctuations completely, because search engines need to crawl the pages again and discover the redirects. A URL map, 301 redirects for every old page and a full transfer of meta tags reduce the risk of a long drop.

Which websites can be migrated automatically?

Seo-Gen CMS has an automatic import for WordPress websites that brings over pages, texts, images, menus, forms, links and SEO data. The import has been tested on websites with the DIVI theme and also reads Gutenberg blocks, but on other themes its results have not been tested, so the team finishes such websites by hand.

Websites on Prom, Horoshop, Shopify, OpenCart, Magento and other platforms are moved manually by the Seo-Gen team. We record the migration scope and acceptable differences from the original in the estimate for each website before work starts.

What happens to the old page URLs?

Where the structure allows it, addresses stay the same, and search engines see the same pages on the new system. Seo-Gen CMS keeps a single address format with a trailing slash, so some addresses may change slightly after the move.

Every changed address gets a 301 redirect, and this map is what lets you migrate a website to a new CMS without losing SEO. Visitors who arrive through old bookmarks and external links land on the right page of the new website.

Can you migrate an online store with its products?

Yes, when we move an online store to another platform, we transfer categories and product cards with the name, description, images, brand, SKU, price, currency and stock status. Product cards in Seo-Gen CMS output Product and Offer structured data with the price and stock status for search engines.

The order history and customer base of an online store can also be moved from the old platform to the new website. How much of this data comes over, and in what shape, depends on the export options of the old platform, and we settle the field list for the catalog, orders and customers during the audit.

Who owns the website data after the move?

The website data belongs to the client, and you can leave Seo-Gen CMS together with your data at any moment. The client receives an export of texts, URLs, media files, meta tags, structured data, redirects and form inquiries at no extra cost.

Texts are exported as Markdown or HTML, the structure and URLs as JSON or CSV, and media files in their original formats. When the contract ends, the client receives a final export of all the data from their website.

What is transferred when you change CMS?

During a manual migration, the Seo-Gen team takes over everything visitors see on the old website and everything search engines take into account. We record the scope of work and acceptable differences in the estimate before the migration starts, so both sides understand the expected result in the same way.

What we moveHow it looks on the new website
Structure and pagesThe same sections, nesting levels and menu order
Texts and imagesTexts without rewriting, images in the media library with crops for different screens
Products and categoriesA catalog with categories, product cards with price, SKU, stock status and photos
DesignA 1:1 design: blocks, fonts, colors, mobile version
Page URLsThe same URLs where possible, the rest through 301 redirects
Meta tags and markupTitle, Description, H1, canonical URL and Schema.org structured data

We set up inquiry forms in the system again and check where notifications go, whether to email or to Telegram. Language versions are moved with separate texts, and the system supports Ukrainian, Russian and English.

Which platforms do we migrate to Seo-Gen CMS?

The order of work is the same for every content management system, and only the way content and products are moved differs. Each platform has its own page with details, and here is a short summary of how we move each one.

PlatformHow we move itWhat we look at
WordPress on the DIVI themeAutomatic Seo-Gen CMS import1:1 design, menus, forms, SEO data
WordPress on other themesImport, page-by-page check and manual finishingDesign, blocks, mobile version
PromManually, by the Seo-Gen teamCatalog and product cards
HoroshopManually, by the Seo-Gen teamProducts, categories, meta tags
ShopifyManually, by the Seo-Gen teamProduct and collection URLs
OpenCartManually, by the Seo-Gen teamCategories, products, URLs
MagentoManually, by the Seo-Gen teamLarge catalog and URLs
Other CMSManually, by the Seo-Gen teamScope defined after the audit

When a website moves from Prom, Horoshop, Shopify, OpenCart or Magento, the Seo-Gen team does the work manually, without automatic import. That is why we calculate the workload from the real catalog and pages, and for an exact estimate we ask for admin access or a product export.

Migration risks and a pre-launch checklist

Most problems after a CMS change come from small details that nobody checked before launch. Before the domain switch we go through this checklist item by item together with the client:

  • all addresses are exported and the redirect map is ready;
  • every page has its Title, Description, H1 and canonical tag;
  • 301 redirects lead to closely matching pages without chains;
  • forms send inquiries and notifications arrive by email or Telegram;
  • the sitemap lists only working URLs and robots does not block the site;
  • analytics is connected and domain ownership is confirmed in search engines;
  • a backup of the old website is kept for comparison.

The main migration risk is haste: launching on a day when half of the checklist items are still unchecked. A website migration checklist removes this risk, because every item is closed before the domain switch and before the first visitor complaints.

A CMS migration stays predictable when the URL map, 301 redirects, meta tags and a checklist verified with the client are ready before launch. WordPress websites move to Seo-Gen CMS through the automatic import, tested on the DIVI theme, while the team moves websites from other platforms manually under an agreed estimate starting from UAH 25,000. The website data stays with the client, who edits SEO settings in the admin panel after the move.
