Spark Ads setup on TikTok

Spark Ads lets you run ads based on videos that have already been published on TikTok. This can be brand content, a product review, an expert video, a customer video, or material from a UGC creator. The post stays linked to the real TikTok account, while paid traffic is directed to that same piece of content.

What are Spark Ads on TikTok and how does the format work?

Seo-Gen provides full-service Spark Ads setup: we review the TikTok account and ad account, connect Business Center, work with authorization codes, configure the ad campaign, audiences, analytics, and conversion tracking. After launch, we monitor spend, compare creatives, and keep the combinations that match the campaign objective.

Spark Ads is a TikTok ad format in which the creative is built around an organic post. The user sees a regular TikTok video with the creator’s profile, caption, comments, and other available elements of the post. During paid delivery, the video receives additional reach through TikTok Ads Manager.

This format works well when a brand already has strong organic videos or collaborates with bloggers and UGC creators. There is no need to upload a separate copy of the video to the ad account each time. Once the required authorization is in place, the advertiser selects the relevant post and uses it in the campaign.

How do Spark Ads use organic posts?

The original TikTok post remains at the center of the campaign. Likes, comments, shares, profile views, and other user interactions are tied to the real post. If a person opens the creator’s profile, they can see that video among the account’s other content.

This needs to be checked before the campaign goes live. The caption, video itself, cover, and content of the post should all be reviewed in advance. If the video contains an outdated offer, an incorrect link, or a weak call to action, paid promotion will simply expose those issues to more users.

Which posts can be promoted with Spark Ads?

You can use a brand’s own content or posts from other creators, provided the advertiser has permission. The connection method depends on who owns the TikTok account and how the workflow is organized between the brand, agency, and content creator.

Before launch, we verify the right to use the video, the authorization period, compliance with TikTok’s ad policies, and the link between the video and the landing page. If a campaign uses content from several creators, it is better to track codes and access separately so active posts remain under control.

Videos from your own TikTok account

A brand can promote posts from its own TikTok account after the profile has been properly connected to the advertising setup. This works for product videos, product demonstrations, case studies, expert videos, and content that is already generating organic views.

Before launch, we look at how the audience responds to the video without paid traffic. A high view count alone does not guarantee results. Retention, comments, profile visits, response to the offer, and how well the video matches the destination page all matter.

What is included in full-service Spark Ads setup?

Full-service Spark Ads setup includes technical preparation of the advertising infrastructure, work with posts, campaign launch, and ongoing optimization. The scope depends on the number of TikTok accounts, creators, markets, campaign objectives, and the state of analytics.

Before work begins, we document which accesses the client already has and what still needs to be connected. This helps separate ad account issues from creative issues and avoids spending the test budget before the basic setup is complete.

Gennadii, Lead SEO Specialist, Seo-Gen
I recommend not launching Spark Ads on every video in sequence. I first assess the post’s organic signals: attention retention, comments, saves, shares, and whether the video matches the commercial objective. Before scaling, I also check post authorization, analytics, and the landing page so the advertising data can be used correctly for further optimization.

How Seo-Gen works

We start with access and a short brief. We then analyze the product, TikTok profile, ad account, and existing posts. After that, we prepare the structure of the first test and a list of creatives.

The main stages are as follows:

  1. We obtain access and initial information. We check TikTok Ads Manager, Business Center, the website, analytics, and the profiles that will be used in advertising.
  2. We analyze the product and content. We define the target audience, campaign objective, and the videos that can be included in the first test.
  3. We prepare authorization. We connect the brand’s own account or obtain a video code from a blogger or UGC creator.
  4. We set up the campaign. We create the TikTok Ads Spark structure and define the budget, audiences, objective, and events for optimization.
  5. We launch the ads. We check moderation, ad delivery, spend, and the accuracy of analytics.
  6. We optimize the results. We compare creatives, audiences, and conversions, then prepare the next testing cycle.

After each stage, the ad account remains organized and easy to understand. If new Spark Ads are added to the project, they can be launched without rebuilding the entire setup.

More cases

Spark Ads setup cost

The price depends on the number of campaigns, creatives, markets, and the current state of the advertising infrastructure. A project with one TikTok account and a few in-house videos requires a different amount of work from a campaign involving dozens of UGC creators across several countries.

The cost is also affected by the need to configure TikTok Pixel, GA4, events, Business Center, and reporting. Media spend is paid separately and is defined after assessing the niche, audience, and number of test combinations.

For clients looking for a TikTok Spark Ads agency or Spark Ads agency for ongoing management, the scope of work is agreed on a monthly basis. For a one-off launch, we can define a separate list of tasks covering preparation, setup, and the first optimization cycle.

Answers to your questions

What are Spark Ads on TikTok?

Spark Ads is a TikTok advertising format that uses an already published organic video. It may be a video from a brand, blogger, or UGC creator, provided the advertiser has the necessary permission to use it.

The ad is launched through TikTok Ads Manager, while the post remains connected to the creator’s real profile. Users can interact with the video and visit the account from which it was originally published.

How are Spark Ads different from regular TikTok ads?

The main difference is the source of the creative. Spark Ads uses a real TikTok post, while Non-Spark Ads can run as a separate advertising video with no organic post history.

For a business, the choice depends on the content and objective. If there is a strong organic video or creator post, Spark Ads is worth including in the test. If a dedicated ad edit is required, a regular ad format can be used.

How do you get a Spark Ads code?

The creator opens the video settings, enables permission for advertising use, and generates a video code. The code is then sent to the advertiser or agency setting up the campaign.

In TikTok Ads Manager, the code is added to the library of authorized Spark Ads. Before launch, the advertiser should check that the code matches the correct post and that its validity period is long enough.

How long does a Spark Ads code remain valid?

During authorization, the creator can select an available period for use of the post. TikTok provides options including 7, 30, 60, and 365 days.

The period should match the media plan. If a campaign is expected to run for several months, a short code will need to be renewed and may create an unnecessary pause in the use of an active creative.

Can Spark Ads be launched using a blogger’s video?

Yes, if the blogger has authorized the specific post for advertising use or the account has been authorized through the appropriate method. A verbal agreement to publish a video alone is not enough for the technical launch.

The terms for using the content, campaign period, and geographic territory should also be agreed in advance. TikTok authorization and the legal right to use the content should match the agreement with the creator.

Can the video be changed after receiving a Spark Ads code?

The code is linked to a specific post, so the final video, caption, and offer should be checked before authorization. A campaign should not be planned around the assumption that the original post can be edited later.

If the video contains an error or requires a substantial content change, it is safer to publish a new version and obtain a new authorization. That way, the campaign remains linked to current content.

Is TikTok Pixel required for Spark Ads?

The Spark Ads format itself does not require Pixel for every scenario. If the campaign is focused on views or profile interactions, the analytics setup depends on the specific objective.

For sales, leads, and other website actions, TikTok Pixel and correctly configured events are needed for analysis and optimization. GA4 and UTM tags should also be used.

What budget is needed to launch Spark Ads?

There is no universal budget because impression and conversion costs vary by country, audience, product, and campaign objective. The number of creatives to be tested also needs to be considered.

The first test budget should provide enough data for comparison. If the budget only allows a small number of impressions for each video, conclusions about performance will be unreliable.

Ask a question

If you already have TikTok content, blogger videos, or UGC, it can be tested with paid traffic without creating a separate ad version of every video. This requires properly connecting accounts, authorizing posts, setting up TikTok Ads Manager, and preparing analytics.

Seo-Gen handles Spark Ads setup from access checks and creative selection through launch, testing, and campaign optimization. You receive a clear ad account structure, spend control, and data that can be used to plan future launches.

Submit a request for full-service Spark Ads setup – we will review your current TikTok account, advertising infrastructure, and prepare a plan for the first launch.

Videos from bloggers and UGC creators

Using someone else’s post requires the creator’s permission. One option is a video code, generated by the creator for a specific video. The code is passed to the advertiser, after which the authorized post can be added to TikTok Ads Manager.

For UGC content, advertising rights should also be agreed before launch. An agreement with a blogger to publish a video does not always automatically include permission for paid promotion. When several creators are involved, we track videos, authorization periods, and the campaigns using them separately.

Business and campaign objective analysis

We first define the product, geography, target audience, campaign objective, and the user action we want to drive. We separately review the TikTok profile, existing posts, UGC content, and materials from bloggers.

After the analysis, we build a test plan: which videos will go into the first launch, which audiences need to be checked, what budget is required to collect enough data, and which metrics will be used for decisions.

TikTok account and ad account audit

We review TikTok Ads Manager, TikTok Business Center, the ad account, user roles, and access to the required profile. If the campaign sends traffic to a website, we also check TikTok Pixel, events, and conversion tracking.

At this stage, we also review previous campaigns if any have already run. Spend history, rejected ads, old audiences, and incorrectly configured events can affect future work, so they need to be considered before a new launch.

Selecting posts for Spark Ads

There is no need to use every video from the profile in a test. We first select posts where the product is clear, the opening is strong, attention retention is solid, and there is a logical path to the desired user action.

We review organic views, comments, saves, shares, and audience response to the content. These signals help build the first creative shortlist, but the final decision is made after the paid test produces results.

Connecting the TikTok account and Business Center

We connect the required advertising assets and verify user permissions. If the client works through an agency, access is configured so the password to a personal TikTok account does not need to be shared for ad management.

A clear access structure makes future work with campaigns and creators easier. When another ad account or UGC creator is added to the project, it can be connected to the existing structure without rebuilding the entire setup.

Obtaining permission from the creator

If the video was published by a blogger or UGC creator, permission for advertising use is required before launch. TikTok provides mechanisms for authorizing either the post or the account.

We check whether the permission is valid, which post it is linked to, and how long it has been granted for. This is particularly important for long-running campaigns, where expired authorization can stop a creative from being used.

Authorizing a post with a video code

The creator opens the settings for the required video, allows it to be used in advertising, and generates an authorization code. The video code is passed to the advertiser or agency and added to the relevant ad account.

The code validity period should match the planned duration of the test. If the campaign is expected to run for several months, a short authorization period creates extra technical work and a risk that an active ad will stop.

Working with authorized accounts

For ongoing work with creators, authorized accounts through Business Center can be more convenient when that setup fits the project. It reduces manual work with separate video codes and simplifies access management.

In all cases, the advertiser must have the legal right to use the creator’s content. Technical access in TikTok does not replace an agreement covering the duration, territory, and manner in which the video may be used in advertising.

Setting up the ad campaign in TikTok Ads Manager

Once the posts are prepared, we create the campaign in TikTok Ads Manager. We select the objective, configure ad groups, audience, budget, bidding strategy, and the required Spark Ads.

We structure the campaign so creatives and audiences can be compared without mixing data. If too many different variables are tested in one group at the same time, it becomes difficult to understand what actually affected the result.

Selecting the campaign objective

The campaign objective depends on the business goal. It may be reach, traffic, video views, community interaction, lead generation, sales, or app promotion.

Before launch, we define the main metric that will be used to evaluate the campaign. Sales campaigns should not be judged by CPM alone, and reach campaigns should not be assessed only by the number of leads.

Audience setup

We use available geographic, demographic, interest, custom audience, and remarketing settings where they fit the campaign objective. Excessively narrow targeting can restrict delivery, so segments are tested separately.

If the website already has enough data, audiences can be built around previous user behavior. For a new project, early campaigns are often used first to collect statistics and test creative hypotheses.

Budget and bidding strategy

There is no single correct budget for Spark Ads. The amount depends on the country, audience size, campaign objective, number of creatives, and the cost of the target action in a specific niche.

The test budget should generate enough data to compare ads. If a small amount is spread across too many audiences and videos, each option will receive too few impressions for a meaningful analysis.

CTA and landing page

The CTA in the video and ad should match the page the user reaches. If the video promotes a specific product, sending traffic to the store’s general homepage is usually less logical than linking to the relevant category or product page.

Before launch, we check mobile speed, forms, buttons, UTM tags, and the conversion path. The landing page should continue the message of the video without a sudden change in the offer.

Analytics setup

For campaigns that send users to a website, we configure or verify TikTok Pixel, events, and conversion tracking. We also use GA4 and UTM tags to understand paid traffic behavior outside Ads Manager.

The event set depends on the business. For an online store, this may include product view, add to cart, and purchase; for services, it may be form submission or another confirmed lead. Events should correspond to real actions on the site.

Launch, testing, and optimization

After moderation, we launch the first test and monitor ad delivery. We do not draw conclusions from the first few clicks: comparison requires enough data, and the required volume depends on the budget and the cost of the target action.

During optimization, we review CPM, CTR, CPC, video views, engagement, conversions, CPA, or CPL. For e-commerce, we also analyze ROAS when purchases and revenue are being passed into analytics correctly.

Reporting and recommendations

The report shows spend, campaign results, the performance of individual Spark Ads, and changes made during the period. Metrics are interpreted in the context of the campaign objective rather than as an isolated set of numbers.

Based on the results, we prepare the next test list: which videos to keep, which audiences to narrow or expand, whether new creator content is needed, and which hypotheses should be tested in the next cycle.

Campaign monitoring schedule

The workflow does not end on launch day. During the first days, we check delivery and technical issues, then accumulate data, compare creatives, and gradually reallocate the budget.

StagePreparationLaunchData collectionOptimizationScaling
Access check100%20%0%0%0%

Creative analysis40%60%100%100%60%
Budget adjustment0%40%60%100%100%
Preparing new tests40%40%60%100%100%

The percentages show the relative intensity of work at each stage rather than a share of budget, time, or a performance forecast. The actual workload depends on the number of campaigns, creatives, conversions, TikTok moderation, and the speed at which data accumulates.

More on: Spark Ads setup on TikTok

TikTok Ads and Spark Ads: what is the difference?

TikTok Ads is the advertising system used to create and manage campaigns. Spark Ads operates within that system as a specific format for using organic content. Comparing them as two separate advertising platforms would therefore be inaccurate.

In practice, clients are usually more interested in the difference between Spark Ads and regular ad creatives uploaded without a link to an organic post. The choice depends on the content, campaign objective, creator workflow, and whether interactions need to accumulate on the real TikTok post.

CriterionSpark AdsNon-Spark Ads

Blogger contentCan be used after authorizationUsed as a separate creative if rights are available

When is it better to use Spark Ads?

The format is worth testing when the account already has posts that receive a good response from the audience. These may include product reviews, short tutorials, answers to questions, customer videos, or blogger content. Paid reach helps test that content with a broader audience.

Spark Ads also works well for brands that use creator content on a regular basis. Instead of editing and re-uploading the same video, the advertiser receives the creator’s permission and promotes the original post. Scaling decisions are then based on advertising metrics, not only on organic view counts.

When should you use Non-Spark Ads?

A separate ad creative is appropriate when the video should not appear on the organic profile or when a special version is needed for a specific campaign. This format is also used to test different edits, offers, calls to action, and landing pages without changing the profile’s content.

TikTok Ads and Spark Ads can be tested in parallel within the same ad account. The comparison should use the same campaign objective and clear KPIs; otherwise, results from different campaigns will not provide a reliable basis for comparing the formats.

Who is Spark Ads setup suitable for?

Spark Ads setup is most often relevant for businesses that already use TikTok for organic content or have access to videos from bloggers and UGC creators. The format fits short demonstration videos, testimonials, reviews, and expert content particularly well.

Before launch, we assess the product, campaign objective, and the user journey after viewing the video. For some projects, the main result is a purchase on the website; for others, it may be a lead, app install, profile visit, or reach within the target audience.

Online stores and e-commerce

In e-commerce, Spark Ads is often used for product reviews, unboxings, product demonstrations, and customer videos. This type of content can give users more information than a static ad, especially when the product needs to be shown in use.

Before scaling, we check the landing page, product availability, price, mobile version of the site, and conversion tracking. Even a strong video cannot compensate for a slow store or a page where the user cannot quickly find the product shown in the video.

Service businesses

For services, useful formats include process demonstrations, expert answers, case studies, and explanations of how the service works. Spark Ads can be used for both local and remote services where TikTok’s advertising policies allow promotion of the relevant category.

The creative should clearly explain what service the user will receive and what they need to do next. If a user goes from the video to the website, the landing page should continue the same offer without changing the price, terms, or core message.

Local businesses

Restaurants, salons, studios, shops, and other local companies can promote videos showing a real location, team, product, or service process. Accurate geographic targeting and a properly completed profile are especially important for these campaigns.

We separately check where the CTA leads and whether the address, phone number, or booking form is easy to find. If the target audience is limited to a specific city, overly broad reach can quickly consume the ad budget without generating the needed inquiries.

Mobile apps and digital products

For apps, Spark Ads can be built around short feature demonstrations, use cases, and creator videos. Before launch, it is important to define which user actions should be tracked after they click through from the ad.

If a business needs installs or paying users, the campaign should not be judged by video views alone. For these projects, we configure the required events, verify analytics, and compare the cost of the target action across creatives.

Brands, experts, and content creators

For brands and experts, Spark Ads can scale posts that already serve a useful purpose on the organic profile. This may be an introduction to the product, an explanation of a service, a case study, a review, or a video answering a common question.

If the primary objective is tied to the profile, we look beyond CTR and CPC. We also review profile views, follows, interactions, and subsequent audience behavior. The KPI set is defined before launch so campaign results can be compared consistently.

How do you get a Spark Ads code on TikTok?

A code is required when an advertiser wants to use a creator’s post in Spark Ads and that post does not belong to the advertiser’s own connected profile. The creator enables ad authorization for the specific video and provides the generated code.

The authorization period should be agreed before launch. TikTok supports several authorization durations, so different settings can be used for a short test and a long-running campaign.

How does a creator generate a code for a video?

The creator opens the relevant post and goes to the ad authorization settings. After allowing the video to be used in advertising, the validity period is selected and a video code is generated.

The code should be sent to the advertiser unchanged, together with a link to the post. If several creators are involved at the same time, it is better to keep a separate list of codes, videos, and validity periods so creatives are not mixed up during campaign setup.

How do you add the code in TikTok Ads Manager?

In the ad account, we open the Spark Ads workflow and add the authorized post using the code received. After successful verification, the video becomes available for selection when the ad is created.

Before launch, we check the creator, caption, and video again. If the creator sent a code for a different post or the video was changed before authorization, it is better to identify the issue before the campaign reaches moderation.

What happens after the code expires?

Once the authorization ends, whether the post can be used in new advertising scenarios depends on the current permission. For long-running campaigns, expiration dates should be monitored in advance rather than on the day the code stops being valid.

TikTok allows different authorization periods, including 7, 30, 60, or 365 days. For ongoing work with a blogger, it is sensible to agree on a period that matches the media plan and the terms for using the content.

How do we select creatives for TikTok Spark Ads?

When selecting creatives, we look at the content of the video, the response of the organic audience, and how well it matches the campaign objective. Not every popular video is suitable for sales, and not every commercial video needs a high organic view count.

The first test is better built around several different creative approaches. These may include a product demonstration, testimonial, problem-solution scenario, short review, or a creator video based on personal experience.

Organic signals from the video

Views show only part of the picture. We also look at how long users watch the video, whether they visit the profile, leave comments, save the post, or share it.

If a post is already receiving relevant questions about the product, price, or terms, that can be a useful test signal. The final assessment, however, comes after paid traffic is launched and the result is compared with other creatives.

The first seconds and the hook

On TikTok, users quickly decide whether to keep watching. The beginning of the video should therefore provide immediate context by showing the product, situation, problem, or result connected with the topic of the video.

The hook should not turn into artificial clickbait. If the first seconds promise one thing and the rest of the video moves to a different topic, the video may still get views, but the paid traffic can be irrelevant.

Native style and UGC

UGC content often uses a simple presentation from a real person: a product demonstration, personal experience, or short explanation. This style fits naturally into the TikTok feed.

A native style does not mean low quality. Sound, framing, text, offer, and call to action still need to be clear. Creator content should be evaluated as carefully as a studio-produced ad creative.

Matching the creative to the campaign objective

A video for reach may be structured differently from a video intended to generate a lead or sale. If conversions are the main objective, the user should understand after watching what product is being offered and what will happen after the click.

For profile promotion, interactions, views of other videos, and follows may be more important. The same creative should therefore not automatically be used across every campaign type.

Smart+ and Spark Ads

Spark Ads can also be used in Smart+ campaigns when the format is available for the required objective and account. The content preparation logic remains similar: the appropriate post, valid authorization, and profile access are still required.

Smart+ automation does not remove the need to check creatives, events, and analytics. Before launch, we define which signals are being sent to the system and which business action should be optimized; otherwise, the automated campaign will work with incomplete data.

Manual campaigns and Smart+ can be compared in a test when there is enough budget and a clear evaluation method. We do not combine the results of different objectives into one conclusion and assess the quality of the resulting conversions separately.

Common mistakes when launching Spark Ads

Most problems appear before the campaign even starts: the advertiser chooses a random video, fails to check access rights, or sends traffic without properly configured analytics. The budget is then spent, but the reason for weak performance is difficult to identify.

Technical preparation usually takes less time than relaunching after a poorly designed test. Before moderation, we therefore check accounts, creatives, objectives, events, and landing pages separately.

Promoting any video without prior analysis

High organic views do not mean a video will generate leads or purchases. A video may have become popular because of its topic, humor, or discussion that has no direct connection with the product.

Before launch, we analyze the content and the audience response. If users watch the video but show no interest in the product, a different creative is usually better for a performance campaign.

Expired or incorrectly shared authorization code

A video code should be checked as soon as it is received. An incorrect code, a code for another post, or a short authorization period can delay the launch and create problems during an active campaign.

For projects with several UGC creators, we maintain a table of posts and authorization periods. This simple control reduces the risk of losing a working ad because the authorization has expired.

Missing analytics and TikTok Pixel

If the campaign objective involves actions on the website, it is difficult to evaluate the result without correct tracking. Clicks and CTR show how users respond to the ad, but they do not show what people do after they arrive on the site.

We configure TikTok Pixel, events, GA4, and UTM tags before the test begins. After launch, we also check whether real user actions match the data in the ad account.

Using only one creative without testing

One video does not provide a meaningful comparison. If a campaign performs poorly, it is difficult to know whether the problem lies in the audience, offer, video itself, or landing page.

We therefore prepare several creative options or use several organic posts. Tests should remain controlled: changing too many parameters at the same time makes the analysis more difficult.

Mismatch between the video, offer, and landing page

A video may show a specific discounted product, while the click takes the user to a homepage where that product is not visible. Some users will not search for it themselves and will simply leave the site.

Before launch, we compare the offer in the video, ad, and landing page. The price, terms, product, and CTA should match throughout the user journey.

Trying to change an authorized post after launch

Spark Ads works with a specific organic post, so the video and its parameters should be checked before authorization. It is better not to assume that any mistake can be fixed after the campaign has already started.

If the video contains incorrect information, it is safer to prepare a new post and authorize it again. That is more reliable than building a campaign around content that no longer matches the current offer.

New creatives through Business Center

TikTok Business Center simplifies the workflow when multiple accounts, an advertiser, an agency, and content creators are involved. It allows access and authorized profiles to be managed without sharing personal TikTok passwords.

Before connecting assets, we review the Business Center structure, user roles, and ad account permissions. This reduces situations where a campaign is ready to launch but the required profile or post is still unavailable in Ads Manager.
